What is the difference between a channel and a preset?
A channel is very similar to a real amp channel. The only difference is that you can choose a specific amp for each channel. Just like a real amp, the channels can be easily switched while playing.
A preset is used to save and restore all the settings of Amplosion to/from the hard disk: current channel, all channels settings (amp, amp controls..), speaker cabinet settings, input level.. You access the presets management panel by clicking the PANEL button.
How do I control the input level?
You will find the global input level control in the top left panel (INPUT LEVEL).

May I boost the input signal? What happens if the input level LED display goes in the red?
Amplosion reacts just like a real tube amp. So you can boost the input signal up to the red, adding gain to the amp.

How do I control the output level?
Each amp has its own output level control (LEVEL), that you should adjust so that the output level display is not in the red.

What is the 'oversampling factor'?
A guitar amp creates a lot of harmonics, whose frequencies can be much higher than the Nyquist frequency (half of the sampling frequency). This creates unpleasant audible digital noise due to aliasing.
Amplosion internally multiply the DAW sample rate by an oversampling factor to lower this noise at an inaudible level. This factor is higher for the lower sample rates, so you get the same quality even at lower rates.
What's an IR?
IR means Impulse Response, and in our case, an IR file is a small audio file that contains the 'signature' of the simulated speaker cabinet. You may load an IR file by clicking the LOAD IR button, and active it by clicking the IR ON button.
Are there any IR files installed with Amplosion?
No, you will need to use your own IR files. There are many IR providers and you will easily find your preferred speaker cabinet IR's, including free ones.
However, you can find a couple of free IRs made by Heptode here !

What is the purpose of the HiCut button?
The HiCut button activates a Heptode proprietary filter that provides a simple but very efficient Speaker Cabinet Simulator, even without any IR file.
You may use an IR alone, an IR + HiCut filter, the HiCut filter alone, or none of them (in that case, an external Speaker Cabinet Simulator may be necessary).
Is there any difference between Heptode analog and digital simulation technologies?

Free Guitar Pedals Vst Plugins

Not really. Heptode has always been working on both analog and digital technologies and the same methodology is used for both.
Is the license valid for all user accounts?
Yes, the license is valid for all user accounts on the same machine. Each user will have to activate the license using the same License Key.
Where can I find the free Virtual Deep Crunch and Virtual Heavy Tone VST plug-ins ?
You may use these IR files freely, but you may not sell, rent, lease them nor integrate them in another free or commercial product.

Notes on use:
HEPTODE plugins are compatible with any VST Audio Plugins V2.4 compliant 32 bit host application.
OS requirements: Windows XP (SP3), Vista or Windows 7 (32/64 bit), Mac OS X (10.4.11 or later versions, Intel and PowerPC)
*.
The audio sample rate should be at least 44.1kHz for best quality. The Heptode VST plugins are configured with a single mono input and a single mono output.
Click on the Heptode Logo for information about the plugin version.
If you plug directly your guitar into your audio card input, check that its impedance is compatible with your intrument (typically guitar with passive microphones will require at least a 500kOhm impedance).
You can use your computer speakers to listen to the Heptode VST Plugins. In this case, you should turn on the CabSim switch to simulate a guitar cabinet.
You can also plug the audio card output in a guitar amp, either in the normal guitar input, or in the effect return input, as you would do with the real pedals.
HEPTODE plugins do not generate any noise, but they naturally amplify the guitar and the audio card noise. Audio card inputs with 100db Signal to Noise ratio or more will give excellent results.
It is still difficult to simulate the whole behavior of analog components (analog pedals are still alive!). The virtual pedals are therefore not perfect, and do not intend to replace the real pedals. Quality also depends on external components such as the audio card or the computer itself.
